A gorgeous, authentic late-Victorian sterling silver pocket snuff box. Crafted by the highly prestigious silversmiths Deakin & Francis in 1897, this piece features an elegant, classic design with rich historical character.
Design & Features:
- Craftsmanship: Beautiful repoussé spiral fluting/swirl motif across the domed lid and a matching decorative drop border completely surrounding the lower side walls.
- Monogram: The top central oval cartouche is beautifully hand-engraved with a cursive Victorian script monogram ("H”).
- Full Hallmarks: The underside of the base is sharply stamped with a crisp, full British hallmarking sequence: Maker's mark "D&F" (Deakin & Francis), the Birmingham Anchor, the lowercase date letter "x" for 1897, and the Lion Passant guaranteeing solid .925 sterling silver. The inner lid rim retains its matching partial hallmarks.

Condition Report:
Excellent antique condition overall. The lid hinge operates smoothly, and the box opens securely and closes with a tight, flush fit. The silver retains a beautiful luster and natural patina that highlights the fluted details. As expected with a 130-year-old vanity item, there are a few minor dents strictly on the bottom surface of the base (please see photos for close-up details). The side walls, fluted lid, and edges are in fantastic shape with no splits, cracks, or heavy damage.
